iOS 18 at WWDC 2024

At Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, the tech giant revealed iOS 18, showcasing a range of new features including enhanced Home Screen customization and improved privacy controls. This latest version of iOS will roll out to eligible iPhone models later this year, bringing advanced capabilities powered by Apple’s processors.

Enhancement of Home Screen Customization

iOS 18 introduces significant improvements to Home Screen customization. Users can now access a more versatile control center that includes support for controls from third-party apps. This update allows for a more personalized and intuitive user experience.

Privacy Features

Privacy continues to be a cornerstone of Apple’s philosophy. iOS 18 includes features that give users greater control over their data. Notably, users can share specific contacts with apps rather than granting access to their entire contact list. Additionally, certain apps can be locked directly from the Home Screen, ensuring that only authorized users can access them using biometric authentication or a passcode.

Upgrade of siri

Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, is receiving a major upgrade in iOS 18. With a more conversational interface and the ability to “Type to Siri,” users can interact with the assistant in various ways. Siri will also feature On-Screen Awareness powered by Apple Intelligence, enhancing its functionality. This update will initially be available in beta on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

RCS messaging and support

The Messages app in iOS 18 is getting a substantial update. It will support RCS messaging, allowing for better compatibility between iPhone and Android devices. This includes improved image quality and enhanced group chat features. The app will also support text formatting and the use of emoji in Tapback responses. Additionally, iPhone 14 and newer models in supported regions will benefit from satellite connectivity for sending texts and emoji.

Improvement of Control Center

iOS 18 brings notable improvements to the Control Center. Users can now access a gallery of controls, including those from third-party apps, and customize their layout. This update provides more flexibility and convenience in managing device settings.

Passwords App

A dedicated Passwords app is being introduced in iOS 18. This app, which will also be available on iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, visionOS 2, and Windows, allows users to manage their passwords, view verification codes, and identify weak or compromised passwords.

Compatibility with iPhone XR

iOS 18 will be compatible with iPhone XR and newer models, up to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As with previous updates, certain features may not be available on older models.

Stay tuned for the official release later this year to experience all the new features and enhancements iOS 18 has to offer.
