“Unplugging from Tech: Understanding and Addressing Smartphone Addiction”

The time has come now that we have to admit that we can’t live without the technology especially smart phones. According to a study, a lot of people would rather prefer to chat through their phones, rather having a conversation with the actual person.

An actual term has been invented called “Nomophobia” means, fear of being without their smart phones.

Understanding the Technology addiction:

Overcoming the tech addiction means ending its usage. Usage of technology must improve the quality of your wellbeing than taking over your life.

The technology addiction or every addiction creates an “obsession” – creating a perpetual cycle of pursuing out a pleasurable experience over and over again.

The addiction might be mild or severe, but it is not good for the person. Here are some ways that help you overcome the Tech addiction:

Personalize the Notifications:

Lesser the notifications you receive, lesser you check your phone. You don’t need to be aware if anyone liked or commented on the picture you posted. So, turning off the notifications make you feel less enforced to use your phone.

Limit the Smartphone usage:

Set a specific time to check your phone and also set specific places where you shouldn’t use them. Like:

  • No phone usage at dining.
  • No phone usage in the restroom.
  • No phone usage in the bedroom.
  • No phone usage at special events.

Start with simple and easy one and add one after 10 days.

Become the old-fashioned:

After the invention of the Smartphone wristwatches almost became extinct, everybody starts to look to their phones for the time. But that doesn’t end there it continues to extreme points.

So, it’s best to wear back the wristwatches again and switching the mobile alarms with actual alarm clocks.

Set the long passwords:

Most people set the short passwords for quick unlocking of the phone. If you want to reduce the phone addiction, set the phone password with minimum 15 characters mixing the upper and lower case.

This inconvenience helps in getting the discipline of using the phone mindfully.

Be wise in the usage of the Apps:

Delete all the apps you don’t use; this will remove all the junk. Improve the battery life and reduce the time of your spending on the unwanted apps.

To take this advice into more advanced, delete all the social network apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Because, those mobile-friendly apps are more addictive than an occasional exploration of the URL.

If you are interested in taking a step to the more advanced level we suggest you delete all game apps.

Don’t break the habits, Replace them:

Whenever you don’t need your phone keep it in the place far away from where you can’t reach it and replace the prone position with a book? In this way, you are substituting a new habit in your life with a bad one.

So, whenever you are feeling that you are going to use the phone unnecessarily, grab a book.

Avoid the unnecessary wastage of time and replace it with good and healthy ones like, building relationships, reading books, gardening etc.
