Comment Topics Summarizer by AI

Announced on YouTube’s dedicated support page for test features and experiments, the comment topics summarizer aims to streamline user interaction by sorting comments into popular topics. This feature, first introduced for long-format videos last year, is now being adapted for Shorts, the platform’s popular minute-long vertical videos.

How the AI- Powered summarizer works?

The AI-powered summarizer scans all published comments, identifies similar keywords, and categorizes them into distinct topics. Each topic is then labeled with a generated title. For long-format videos, these topics appear under a new ‘Topics’ tab in the comment section on the mobile app. Users can click on each topic to see relevant comments, making it easier to find and join engaging conversations.

Testing process

During the test phase, the AI topics feature will be visible on Shorts from select creators who are part of the experiment. YouTube will select Shorts with large comment sections to display these topics, and only a small group of users on the mobile app will see them. Creators can remove specific topics by deleting individual comments under those topics.

AI- Powered Dream screen on YouTube

In addition to the comment topics summarizer, YouTube is also testing an AI-powered custom green screen image generation tool called Dream Screen for Shorts. These innovations highlight YouTube’s commitment to leveraging AI to improve user engagement and streamline content interaction.

The aim of YouTube’s new feature update is:

YouTube assures that the AI only processes published comments to generate topics. Comments held for review, containing blocked words, or from blocked users are not considered, ensuring thematic alignment and content moderation.

By testing these new features, YouTube aims to boost user participation and enhance the overall viewing experience on its platform. Stay tuned for more updates as YouTube continues to roll out innovative tools to engage its community.
