The Enhancement of Google Lens on YouTube

3 min read

YouTube is stepping up its functionality with the integration of a new Google Lens button on its Android app, according to a recent report. This new feature allows users to perform visual searches directly from the YouTube app by taking images of objects and searching for related videos on the platform. The rollout is currently underway, so not all users will see it immediately on their devices.

What is the purpose of YouTube with google lens button?

As reported by 9to5Google, the YouTube app for Android has been updated to include a Google Lens button next to the search bar. This addition leverages Google’s powerful visual lookup tool, enabling users to identify objects through their device’s camera. The Lens button appears alongside the microphone button, which allows voice search.

Google Lens identifies objects by comparing them with images on the internet. It can also translate over 100 languages in real-time and offers step-by-step instructions for tasks like homework. Moreover, Google Lens includes optical character recognition (OCR) technology, which detects and reads text in images.

Users can capture images of objects with Google Lens and perform searches on YouTube directly. The Lens icon also appears on top of the search results page, providing a seamless search experience. However, the feature is being rolled out gradually, so not all users may have access to it immediately. As noted by Gadgets 360, their staff could not verify its availability yet.

Addition of Dream screen feature in shorts:

In addition to Google Lens, YouTube is testing a new Dream Screen feature for its Shorts. This feature, as detailed in a company blog post, allows creators to add AI-generated custom green screen images to their videos. Creators can simply provide a text prompt describing their desired background.

This feature aims to help creators use creative backgrounds without needing extensive resources, making their content stand out more easily. Being an experimental feature, Dream Screen is currently available to a select group of Shorts creators.

What is the aim of youtube with these updates ?

The integration of Google Lens and the testing of Dream Screen highlight YouTube’s commitment to enhancing user experience and providing innovative tools for creators. With these updates, YouTube aims to make searching for content and creating engaging videos easier and more intuitive.

Stay tuned for more updates as these features become more widely available, potentially transforming how users interact with and create content on YouTube.
