Samsung is gearing up to unveil its latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, later this year. This new model promises to advance the design of the company’s book-style foldable phone with a sleek, angular look and straight lines, setting a new standard in the foldable category.
Design and Slimness:
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be noticeably slimmer than its predecessor, measuring 12.9mm when folded. However, it’s worth noting that this is still thicker compared to some of its rivals currently available in India. For example, Vivo’s X Fold 3 Pro and OnePlus’s Open are slimmer at 11.2mm and 11.7mm, respectively.
In addition to the standard model, Samsung is rumored to be working on an even slimmer version, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. Reports suggest that this variant could be around 11.5mm thick when folded. The reduction in thickness is reportedly due to the removal of the digitiser layer, which is used for the S Pen and adds about 0.6mm to the device’s thickness.
Despite this slimmer profile, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim will still be thicker than some competitors. Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 4 is just 9.47mm thick, and Honor’s Magic V3 is slightly slimmer at 9.2-9.3mm.
Display and Market Availability:
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to feature a generous 8.0-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. However, it might only be available in select markets, such as South Korea and China.
Samsung has faced challenges in creating slimmer foldable phones with long-term reliability, which has influenced the current design thickness. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is anticipated to be released in October. In preparation, Samsung’s engineers have been working on achieving a design as slim as possible, drawing inspiration from the Galaxy S24 series. For reference, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a non-foldable device, measures just 7.7mm thick.
