Google’s AI-powered photo-editing feature, Magic Editor, is now accessible on Samsung smartphones and older Pixel devices. Initially exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, Google announced in April that these advanced photo-editing tools would soon be available on other Android smartphones through the Google Photos app.
AI-Powered Editing Features on Android: extented
Although Google initially planned to release Magic Editor to Android devices starting May 15, the feature is now reportedly being rolled out to a broader range of handsets. This update, first spotted by 9to5Mac, comes with the latest Google Photos app version 9.85.
Capabilities of Magic Editor
Magic Editor, first introduced with the Pixel 8 series, leverages generative AI to provide users with enhanced photo-editing capabilities. With this tool, users can reposition subjects, alter backgrounds, or modify the sky within their images. However, Gadgets 360 staff noted that they could not verify the availability of Magic Editor on Samsung smartphones, even with Google Photos app version 9.86.
Usage Limitations
While Magic Editor is free to use on older Pixel smartphones, Samsung and other Android handset users face some limitations. According to reports, users can make up to 10 Magic Editor library saves per month, after which a Google One subscription is required.
Other Free Features
In addition to Magic Editor, other previously paid features like Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Portrait Blur, Sky Suggestions, cinematic photos, and portrait light are now free for all Android users. Gadgets 360 confirmed that these features are no longer behind Google One restrictions on multiple devices from various manufacturers.
Google One Subscription
The Google One subscription, which starts at Rs. 130 per month for the Basic plan, offers 100GB of storage for Photos, Gmail, and Drive. However, access to the Magic Editor and other advanced AI-powered photo editing features requires the Premium plan, priced at Rs. 650 per month.

Google’s decision to expand its AI-powered photo editing features to more devices enhances the editing experience for a broader audience. Users can now enjoy advanced tools like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and more, bringing professional-level editing capabilities to their smartphones.
