Google has announced that the Pixel 8a will become the latest addition to its lineup of smartphones assembled in India. This move follows the recent commencement of Pixel 8 production in the country. The Pixel 8a, introduced on May 7 as the successor to the Pixel 7a, will soon be assembled locally, joining the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in Google’s latest range. While Google has confirmed that assembly will start soon, the company has yet to provide a specific timeline for when the ‘Made in India’ Pixel 8a models will be available in stores.
Google Pixel 8a Production Shifts to India
During a media roundtable for the Pixel 9 series launch, Google revealed its plans for local assembly of the Pixel 8a. The company stated that production in India would begin “soon,” but did not specify when the smartphones would be ready for purchase.
For the Pixel 8, Google has partnered with Dixon Technologies, an Indian electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider. The collaboration is set to deliver an initial production capacity of 100,000 units per month, with around 25% earmarked for export. This partnership is part of Google’s broader strategy to expand its manufacturing footprint in India.
Impact on Pricing and Availability
While the Pixel 8a will be assembled in India, it remains unclear whether this will lead to a price reduction. Historically, local manufacturing often results in lower prices due to reduced production costs, as seen with the previous Pixel models. After the release of the Pixel 9 series, Google adjusted the prices of its older Pixel devices, suggesting a potential for similar changes.
Google Pixel 8a Pricing and Availability in India
The Pixel 8a is currently priced at Rs. 49,999 for the 128GB variant in India. The 256GB model is priced at Rs. 56,999. Although these revised prices have been announced, they will be effective in the coming weeks on Flipkart, Google’s sole authorized online retailer in India.
The Pixel 8a is available in four attractive color options: Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain.
