Google Chrome for Android has unveiled an exciting new feature called Listen to This Page. This text-to-speech (TTS) functionality allows users to have any text-heavy webpage read aloud. Integrated seamlessly into the Android app, the feature is accessible via the three-dotted menu icon. It includes a mini-player with controls for play/pause, a progress bar, playback speed options, and more. Additionally, users can choose from multiple voices and languages to enhance their listening experience.

How to Use the Feature

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Open Google Chrome on Android: Launch the Google Chrome app on your Android device.

2. Navigate to a Text-Heavy Webpage: Open a webpage that contains a significant amount of text.

3. Access the Menu: Tap the three vertical dots located at the top right corner of the screen.

4. Activate ‘Listen to This Page’: Look for the Listen to This Page option in the menu and tap on it.

Customized settings

– Change Playback Speed:

1. Tap on the mini-player at the bottom of the screen.

2. In the player window, tap the three horizontal dots at the bottom right.

3. Select Playback Speed and adjust as desired.

– Change the Voice:

1. Tap on Voice within the player settings.

2. Preview different voices by tapping Preview.

3. Choose your preferred voice option.

– Enable Highlight Text and Auto-Scroll:

1. Tap on Highlight text and auto-scroll in the player settings to enable this feature.

Language Options

The Listen to This Page feature supports a wide range of languages including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. For English (US), users can select voices like Ruby (mid-pitch, warm), River (mid-pitch, calm), Field (low-pitch, bright), and Moss (low-pitch, peaceful). English (UK) offers Cloud (mid-pitch, soothing) and Dale (low-pitch, calm), while English (India) includes Lake (mid-pitch, calm).

Other Features

– Multi-Tasking Friendly: The audio continues playing even if you switch to a different tab or lock your screen.

– Resume Playback: If the app is closed, the voice is paused. Upon reopening, Chrome resumes reading from where it left off.

Availability

The Listen to This Page feature is rolling out with Google Chrome version 125. Although it is gradually becoming available to users, it may take a few weeks for a wider release. Gadgets 360 staff confirmed the feature’s presence in the latest version of Chrome for Android.
