In a recent political development, the BJP has distanced itself from controversial remarks made by actor-turned politician Kangana Ranaut concerning the farmers’ protest. The party clarified that Ranaut’s statements do not reflect the official stance of the BJP, emphasizing that she is not authorized to speak on policy matters on behalf of the party.
The BJP’s response came after Kangana Ranaut, a BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, suggested that the farmers’ protest could have escalated into a crisis similar to the one faced by Bangladesh had the government not intervened strongly. The party quickly issued a statement disapproving of her comments, urging her to refrain from making such statements in the future.
BJP leaders from Haryana and Punjab, states significantly affected by the farmers’ protest, also advised Kangana to avoid making inflammatory remarks. Harjit Grewal, a prominent BJP leader from Punjab, noted, “Kangana’s statement is personal and not in line with the party’s stance. The BJP, under PM Modi, is committed to being farmer-friendly.”
The Congress, seizing the opportunity, criticized the BJP, with leader Randeep Surjewala questioning whether Kangana’s words were her own or influenced by someone else within the party. This incident has reignited debates surrounding Kangana’s previous controversial comments, including her misidentification of a Punjab farmer as Bilkis Bano during the anti-CAA protests.
Kangana Ranaut has a history of making provocative statements, often drawing sharp reactions from various quarters. However, the BJP’s latest move to distance itself from her remarks signals a clear attempt to manage the party’s image and maintain focus on its farmer-friendly narrative.
