Samsung Galaxy S25 Series to Feature Exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC: Report

Samsung is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series early next year, and new reports suggest a major shift in the company’s chipset strategy. Contrary to earlier rumors that indicated the use of Exynos processors in the Galaxy S25 lineup, a recent report from South Korea indicates that all models in the series will exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. This marks a departure from Samsung’s previous dual-chip approach, as seen with the Galaxy S24 series, where Snapdragon and Exynos chips were used depending on the region.

According to the report from Hankyung, all three models in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series will be powered solely by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. This decision highlights Samsung’s commitment to delivering top-tier performance across its flagship lineup. Previously, the Galaxy S23 series also relied exclusively on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs globally, setting the stage for this shift.

Interestingly, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors in the U.S., other markets, including India, receive models equipped with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 chipset. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, the premium variant in the lineup, is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy SoC across all regions.

Exynos 2500 Chip for Foldables The report also hints at Samsung’s potential plans for its foldable devices. The company is considering using the Exynos 2500 SoC in its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to debut in the second half of 2025. Initially, it was speculated that the Exynos 2500 chip would be used in select regions for the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models, but the focus now seems to have shifted towards the foldable lineup.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is anticipated to offer a significant 30% boost in performance for generative AI tasks compared to its predecessor. Additionally, Qualcomm is expected to provide a specialized version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for the Galaxy, featuring overclocked GPUs and CPU cores tailored for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This move aligns with Samsung’s strategy to incorporate only the highest-performing components in its flagship devices.

As Samsung continues to refine its approach, the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC for Galaxy is projected to be on par with Apple’s upcoming A18 chip for the iPhone 16 series.
