HP continues to dominate the Indian PC market, securing its top position amid a notable increase in shipments during the second quarter of 2024. According to a recent report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), India’s PC market experienced a 7.1 percent year-over-year (YoY) growth in Q2 2024, driven by rising demand across all major categories: desktops, notebooks, and workstations.

Significant Growth in Indian PC Shipments in Q2 2024

The IDC report reveals that a total of 3.39 million PC units were shipped in India during Q2 2024, marking a 7.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was fueled by an 11.2 percent rise in consumer demand, which led to higher shipment volumes.

The surge in demand was observed in both online and offline retail channels, with the e-commerce segment witnessing a remarkable 22.4 percent YoY growth. The commercial PC segment also saw modest growth, increasing by 3.5 percent YoY, driven primarily by strong demand from small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises. The SMB segment recorded a 12.4 percent growth, while large businesses experienced a significant 33.1 percent YoY increase.

HP Maintains Leadership in the Indian PC Market

HP solidified its leadership in the Indian PC market, holding the top spot in both the commercial and consumer segments. The company captured 33.5 percent of the commercial market and 29.7 percent of the consumer market. Additionally, HP dominated the notebook category, securing a market share of 34.4 percent. IDC attributes HP’s success to the growing demand for consumer notebooks and key enterprise orders that boosted its overall market performance.

Lenovo and Dell Follow HP in Market Share

Following HP, Lenovo and Dell Technologies secured the second and third positions in terms of market share. Lenovo captured 17.5 percent of the market, performing particularly well in the SMB segment with a 16.5 percent YoY growth. Dell Technologies, on the other hand, held a 14.8 percent market share but saw a slight decline of 0.5 percent compared to Q2 2023. Despite this, Dell found growth opportunities in the consumer segment.

The Indian PC market is showing strong growth, with HP leading the way. As consumer demand continues to rise, especially in online channels, and with the increasing needs of businesses, the market is expected to see further expansion in the coming quarters. HP’s continued dominance, alongside the competitive efforts of Lenovo and Dell, underscores the dynamic nature of the Indian PC market in 2024.
